Farnborough vs Merthyr Tydfill

FaST Programme notes – Merthyr Tydfill, March 13 2010

Rob’s Raise the Roof Ride – 40 miles to Hemel Hempstead!

With all the recent postponements, it’s still three home games in, and Rob’s ride total has moved up to £1500. Absolutely brilliant! Thanks to anyone who has taken sponsorship forms home or to work – plenty of time to complete them before we need to call them in.

Last time we heard about Rob’s love of cycling – now read above his love of Farnborough FC.

I first started watching Farnborough back in 1976 and can remember when the ground was first built as I used to pass it every day on my way to school; I was 11 years old at the time. There was a rope to mark the perimeter of the pitch and there were no floodlights. People ask me now whom I support and it’s just Farnborough, no premiership teams or anything like that. I’ve got my dad to thank for bringing me along to those early games because he too just supported Farnborough, no one else.

Harvey has been going to games since he was 2 years old; his first game was the one nil home victory over Basingstoke. Most people would recognise us as he was always on my shoulders. In fact we did the Fleet sponsored walk with Harvey on my shoulders! He’s coming up for seven now and is absolutely Farnborough crazy - highlights for him on a match day are the electronic score board and Dean McDonalds trickery! “

Your sponsorship will be for the entire ride, although you are welcome to pledge per mile (Rob’s still to drive the course and work out his exact non-motorway route!) and there is no minimum limit. All donations will be acknowledged and, in the extremely unlikely event that he fails to finish, will be refunded.

You may find it easier to donate online. For this purpose we have set up a Paypal account using our regular email address This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   . Simply log on to Paypal (set up an account if you don’t already have one) and send your sponsorship to this email address where it will be quickly acknowledged.
